Lighting Core Values
I often asked myself until recently, as to how I would summarise the thought process that led to CorLit. Why did I decide to embark on the journey to build a full service firm starting with a full practice law firm and how did I convince folks above and beyond my age and experience to come on board under this brand? The fact of the matter was that I couldn’t summarise the thought process behind the decision to conceive and kickstart CorLit. All this changed recently.
At a networking meet when I happened to specify that we are a full practice law firm, I was suggested, subtly so, to zero in on a single specialisation to keep room for other specialisations to come on board. The lack of candidness behind the suggestion was perhaps attributable to the apprehension that I might take objection to some other professional competing with me within the same sphere of the network. But my response is simple, even if I did zero in on a specialisation, I would still be perfectly okay with 100 other folks coming into the same chapter for the same specialisation.
My confidence stems from a sense of security. Is it security about skill set, experience or talent? I would say yes. But what I am most secure about is the sincerity in our intentions behind CorLit. We fundamentally believe that people who require legal services or any services should get fantastic services, either from us or anybody else. These consumers are entitled to transparency and deserve nothing short of the most sincere and honest practices. It doesn’t matter who is providing these services as long as the consumer’s interests are safeguarded. The vision for CorLit legal in fact is that people should be so well aware of laws that they shouldn’t need lawyers at all. One could say it is being over ambitious, but I am confident we can make strides in that direction or atleast die trying.
CorLit was not conceived as a business or as a source of livelihood, it was conceived out of a longing for something above and beyond the ordinary and mundane. To all of us behind CorLit, it represented an opportunity to walk a different path and take up the task of raising a baby into a responsible adult who could contribute positively to society. As a brand, we will aim to stimulate change in the approach to legal services, amongst other services in general, with the hope that lawyers and service providers in general cease to be intimidating and prove to be resourceful and helpful. We will serve, not as a source of legal services or services themselves, but as a tribute to the noble spirit of the law, liberal ideals and the commitment to help people in every walk of life. These are our core values and we will therefore refrain from all pettiness, be it obsession with competing or being intimidated by other players in the same sphere of practice. CorLit particularly CorLit Legal is therefore an invitation to professionals to find within themselves their sacred duties to their consumers and their disciplines and revel in the satisfaction of fulfilling them, which I feel everyday as the Managing Partner of CorLit Legal. In this pursuit, there are no competitors but only collaborators and from this stems our sense of security.
